The volatile political context and the precarious security and humanitarian situation in many regions of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) contribute to ongoing human rights violations. PI finds that HRDs and journalists who investigate human rights violations and abuses, denounce them, assist victims and witnesses and demand justice, are often one of the primary targets of threats and physical violence.
Since late 2011, Protection International and its partner organisations in the Netherlands, Justitia en Pax, Cordaid and Stichting Vluchteling, have identified a number of DRC defenders who are interested in linking up with Dutch MPs. PI and its partners are working now in the identification of the Dutch MPs who are willing to provide visibility and increased protection for Congolese HRDs on the ground.
PI will provide more information on this ongoing twinning initiative soon.
